Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Lusine Kallon and the Minister of Sports, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh have formed part of a high profiled delegation to spur and motivate Sierra Leone’s national team-Leone Stars ahead of tomorrow’s friendly encounter in Liberia.

Leone Stars will on Sunday, 22nd July, 2018 lock horns with Liberia’s national team, Lone Star after a highly spirited, but competitive engagement from the two countries’ President-Julius Maada Bio and President George Opong Weah to revive sports in the subregion.

The Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs told journalists that, “I am happy to join my colleague Minister with the firm conviction to bring victory.”

After the Zone two victory in the early 90s, Minister Kallon said, sports especially football became nothing to write home about. He charged that the past government didn’t prioritise sports and therefore the country was always at the bottom of all international competitions.

According to him, football is a symbol of unity and a source of generating revenue.
“Football is one of the most enviable careers for young people but they were deprived from it. We are going to use it to bring victory and generate revenue,” he said.

He went on to say that President Bio’s aim is not only to revive sports, but make it a very enviable profession that will bring laurels to the country.

As a youth, he said, “my presence is reassuring and one of hope for the Leone Stars’ squad.”

Minister Kallon has also pledged his Ministry’s support to be closely working with the Sports Ministry.

The Minister of Sports assured that they are not only going for a thrashing victory but to also celebrate Liberia’s independence.

The Sports Minister stated that he was not happy with the deplorable state of sports in the country, noting that, “under the New Direction, President Bio has vowed to revive sports and fly the green, white and blue higher in Africa.”

He said the 23-man squad has been re-energized and victory is the only language they are ready to speak.

“We are not ready to tolerate any win against us,” he assured and called on all Sierra Leoneans to support his Ministry and help reform sports to the envy of all.

Both Presidents are clamouring for victory and to take sports to an impressive height.
